Day Two In Hawaii

We got up early as we wanted to leave the house by 7:30a.m. in order to get to Pearl Harbor by 8:00 or so. After a few wrong turns we finally found the parking lot and headed to the USS Arizona. We had to wait 1/2 hour or so before we could go on the tour. They show you a short movie explaining how everything happened up to and including the terrible day, December 7, 1941. After the movie you take a boat out to the memorial and I have to say, the whole thing was very emotional.

We looked around for a bit and then finally made our way to the back of the memorial to the "wall".

I specifically wanted to see and take a picture of a certain name, W.J. Gray, Jr., S1C, who was my great-uncle, the brother of my Grandmother (Gray) Millett.

We were all so glad to get to see this moving Memorial.

After Pearl Harbor we headed into downtown Honolulu to eat lunch. Tyler wanted us to try a "steak plate". We drove into this little shopping center, trying to find a parking space and then looking around for this little restaurant. Tyler was in Amber & Andy's car and told us the "restaurant" was really a little shack in the parking lot! We finally found it and ordered and found an outside patio of a nearby restaurant to sit down. We got all this, plus a drink, for only $6.00.

There was a salad too but I think I had already eaten it when I decided to take this picture!

After lunch we decided to head back to Kailua. On the way we drove over the Pali Highway and made a stop at the Pali Lookout. It was super windy but what a view of Kailua!

When we returned to the house we decided to try to walk and find the beach. After a few wrong turns, we finally found the path to the beach, only a block and a half away from the house. The waves were really nice and the guys all decided it was time for some body surfing!

Amber went in a few minutes later and unfortunately a wave caught her, flipped her over and she reinjured her neck. She had injured it a few months earlier doing a yoga move. This was not a good start to her vacation.

When we got home she put ice on it but we also looked in the phone book for a chiropractor. We decided to cook chicken and hot dogs for dinner and ate outside next to the pool. Not bad for our first full day in Hawaii!

So, did you LIKE the steak plate (besides the salad that you definitely ate)??

Shockingly, despite the location, it was absolutely delicious. We all thought so! Make sure you get the location if you ever visit Oahu! And what a bargain at only $6.00, including the drink!
